AmeriCares | Yogi Tea

AmeriCares is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to making a difference in the lives of people who face all kinds of deadly threats—from lack of clean water to massive earthquakes.

Yogi is honored to support AmeriCares’ efforts in Nepal, where a devastating magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck on April 25, 2015. The epicenter was only 50 miles from the nation’s capital, Kathmandu. With a relatively shallow depth of nine miles, the earthquake was particularly destructive to homes, infrastructure and cultural heritage sites. On May 12, 2015, a powerful magnitude-7.3 aftershock struck the area, causing more deaths and destruction and reigniting fear and concern among residents. As of June 18, 2015, the death toll had reached 8,795, with thousands more injured. The earthquakes destroyed more than 510,000 homes and partially damaged more than 280,000, and damaged or destroyed more than 1,200 health facilities.

In the wake of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25, 2015, AmeriCares emergency response teams traveled by truck, helicopter and foot to reach remote communities in highly affected areas of the Dhading and Sindhupalchowk districts to treat injured and sick survivors, provide aid and complete needs assessments.AmeriCares programs in Nepal are focused on both the country’s immediate and long-term recovery needs and they continue to work with numerous local and international NGO (nongovernmental organization) partners to coordinate their response and recovery activities.
